The word “recession” wouldn’t describe the deep structural problems affecting everything from the U.S. housing sector to the Canadian oil industry, said Bank of Nova Scotia chief economist Warren Jestin.
“You have to invent a new word to describe what we’re in now,” he said after the banks presented their perspectives at the Economic Club.
Trust me brother, the word already exists. Nobody wants to say it…yet.

On Sunday Lauren and I were taking a walk with London in High Park, and we got to talking about the Ontario elections. Lauren says that more often than not she felt that her vote was more a vote against a party then for a candidate. I didn’t know this then, but a large part of that is because of our antiquated first-past-the-post system which has a number of problems (.pdf) and is used only “in 43 of the 191 countries in the United Nations for either local …
